SOUTH SHORES HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION
BOARD MEETING – December 15, 2009
The December board meeting of the South Shores Homeowners Association (SSHOA) was held at the home of Noah Modisett on December 15, 2009. President Fred Burkholder called the meeting to order at 7:40 p.m. Board Members present were Vern Hall, Joyce Hall, Anita Mannila, Emma Reinie, Noah Modisett, Bob Genest, Stan Katten, Geraldine Katten, Richard Welsh, Jerry Gaines, John Lang, Dave McMullen, Georgia Cordero. There were no guests.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: The minutes of the November 2009 meeting were approved as submitted.
TREASURER’S REPORT; The checking account balance is $7,739.69. The CD balance is $10, 990.61 as reported by the Treasurer.
MONTHLY REPORTS: WEBSITE: Web traffic for the last month (11-12 to 12/11) reflected holiday distractions, but our “Marketeers” showed gains. (It was reported that 20 SSHOA bags were sold by Board members at local markets.) The Home page showed 870 hits and Board Minutes showed 158 hits.
OLD BUSINESS: SSHOA SHOPPING BAGS & APRONS: A motion was made that some of the proceeds of the sale of bags/aprons be donated. It was suggested that South Shores Elementary School be earmarked to receive these funds. The motion was seconded and approved by the Board. Georgia Cordero will contact Principal Paul Suzuki regarding presentation of these funds to the school.
DANCE PARTY AT THE ELKS CLUB: This will be discussed by the Board after the first of the year 2010.
VIEWPOINT: Suggestions were presented to the Board by Vern Hall regarding format of annual VIEWPOINT which will be published after the regular February Board meeting and prior to March 1, 2010. The proposed outline for the VIEWPOINT: Format will be 8 pages. The Center spread will be photos/comments. The format of the March meeting will be decided at the January Board meeting. There will be guest columns on Community issues (Councilwoman Hahn), and LAPD and public safety issues (Officer Buscaino), Hillside building issues, and other local South Shores issues. Final drafts of these columns will be due by Feb. 5 to Vern Hall.
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE: A proposed flyer was shown to the Board. It will be professionally printed and mailed. The proposed budget of $1,000.00 was moved, seconded and approved by the Board.
Decals to be sent out to households of all paid members.
CITIZEN-OF-THE-YEAR: Discussion continued as to possible qualifications, method of selection, etc. Discussions to continue at January Board Meeting.
Landscape-of-the-Month award was proposed and will be discussed further at Jan. Board meeting.
COMMUNICATION BETWEEN BOARD AND MEMBERSHIP: Discussion included suggestions of quarterly e-mails & services available at a cost to send mass e-mails.
A cell phone tower has been installed on Western Ave. between 9th & 19th/Morse Drive.
