 Neighborhood Watch 11/29/11 Minimize

Update on the 11/29/11 Neighborhood Watch Meeting:  We had a great meeting, and what I thought was a pretty decent turn out for something so last minute.

In the meeting we discussed the recent developments with the Paseo Del Mar Landslide.  The most recent information I have is that the County has nearly completed the storm drain construction and the City's Environmental Engineering Firm has started their survey.  Since the major slide a few weeks ago there has been little to no movement recorded in the area which is great.

I have spoken to residents in the area who stated that the lookee-loos and and trespassers have reduced significantly.  The area seems to have quieted down quiet a bit.

There was some concern regarding an assault that happened a number of days ago in the area of 25th and Anchovy.  I'm not allowed to release any information regarding the investigation, however I pulled the police report and it seems to me that the incident was isolated and not directly related to the area.

We also discussed that currently the only major problems in the area are chronic property crimes, ie: thefts and burglaries from vehicles, and burglaries from houses.  It's important to make sure that you are keeping all of your doors and windows locked, and that you aren't leaving anything in plain sight that would be interesting to prospective thieves (iPods, cameras, phones, gps etc).

There was also some concern about a panhandler at the shopping centers in an around 25th and Western.  I advised against giving money to panhandlers since it creates an opportunity for more crimes.  You should never feel intimidated to enter a business due to a panhandler.  If you do, please call the police (Harbor Division Station Front Desk # 310-726-7700).

In addition there was also some concern about pedestrians on the cliff face off of Warmouth, using drugs and often being truant from school.  I am going to put out an extra patrol request to get more officers down in the area regularly and try and knock down that problem.

As of now we're planning incorporating out next neighborhood watch meeting with the annual South Shores Annual Homeowners Meeting on Jan 24th at 6pm at the South Shores Elementary School.  It sounds like it should be a packed house that night, and maybe we can increase our neighborhood watch membership!

I'll bring Neighborhood Watch Signs ($6 each) and "The Club" for cars ($20) for sale.  I will also have some updated crime maps to bring along, although the South Shores area has been pretty quiet crime wise so lets hope it stays that way!

Keep your eyes out for suspicious people following you around or watching you to closely this holiday season.  Burglaries and thefts are very common as criminals try and take advantage of the busy shopping season.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and has a wonderful end of the year!

As always you can contact me at 37814@lapd.lacity.org or via phone on my city cell phone (310 869-2168.

And thanks again to Principal Suzuki for the use of the Auditorium!

 Neighborhood Watch Alert! Minimize
On Sunday evening, Jan. 11th, we had five BFMVs (Burglary From Motor Vehicles) in the lower South Shores area.  It appears that most if not all were from unlocked vehicles.  Please lock your vehicles at night and to not leave valuables in plain sight.

Thanks
