More than 1,300 law enforcement officers fanned out across the San Pedro area, arresting 80 alleged members and associates of the Rancho San Pedro gang, otherwise known as "RSP."

Over 230 individuals are named in both federal and state court documents that allege a host of crimes, including violent acts and firearms and narcotics trafficking.

This massive operation stems from a 2 1/2 year investigation initiated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Los Angeles Police Department that uncovered a  wide range of criminal activities related to the gang.

COUNCILWOMAN JANICE HAHN PRESENTED WITH NEW PLANS FOR
PONTE VISTA SITE IN SAN PEDRO

Councilwoman Janice Hahn recently met with representatives from iStar Financial, the owner of the Ponte Vista Project property, located at 26900 Western Avenue, in San Pedro.  She was presented a proposal for a 1,135 unit project—less than half the size of the original proposal at the site and in line with recommendations made by the city’s Planning Department.  Additionally, iStar has pledged to complete a new Environmental Impact Report and new traffic study for the property—something that is important to the community as the previous traffic study was controversial.

This piece of property has been vacant since 1997.  Building a project at the site will create good, and much-needed, construction jobs.

The Los Angeles Planning Department had previously recommended a density of 775 to 885 units on the property.  Every developer in Los Angeles is entitled to a “density bonus” if affordable housing is provided.  With that bonus, the Planning Departments number grows to 1,195 units.  The Councilwoman is working to ensure that a density bonus will be prohibited at this site, limiting the final number of units to a maximum of the 1,135 that has been proposed.

In response to the presentation, Councilwoman Hahn made the following statement:

“For years, I have joined with the community to push for a smaller project at the Ponte Vista site and I was encouraged by my recent meeting with iStar.  They have been listening and it looks like the concerns of the community, and the recommendations of the planning department, have finally been heard—as this number is much closer to what makes sense in this part of San Pedro.

I have always said that if a good project, with the right number of units, is proposed for this property—it will be approved.  There is still a lot to do, more negotiations to be had, and some hurdles to overcome but I am encouraged that we are finally on the right path to building a successful project at the Ponte Vista site.”
